Layout: Whitby West Cliff, NER, 1950s

The ‘Golden Line’ along the North Yorkshire coast from Whitby towards Middlesbrough is the subject of this 45ft long ‘OO’ gauge layout.

Now operated by Digital Command Control using an NCE Power Cab it models Prospect Hill Junction, Whitby West Cliff station plus Upgang, Newholm Beck and East Row viaducts.

All of the structures are scratchbuilt with the viaducts making extensive use of Plastruct section. Prospect Hill Junction also features the distinctive over-rail signalbox as well as the steep gradient leading down to Whitby town.

Locomotives and rolling stock are typical of the area including LNER Thompson ‘L1’ 2-6-4Ts and ‘B1’ 4-6-0s as well as the Raven ‘Q6’ 0-8-0 on freight traffic and more modern BR Standard ‘4MT’ 2-6-4Ts. The first of the diesels are also present including Diesel Multiple Units. These are ready-to-run models supplemented by kit built models of the ‘G5’ 0-4-4T, an ‘A5’ 4-6-2T and a ‘D20/1’ 4-4-0.

Looking around the layout you will also see over 500 figures, lighting along the roads, period road vehicles and much more.
