Features: Ashington, BR (SR), 1950s/1960s

Published 2 August 2018, 11:57

Ashington is firmly set in Southern Electric territory on BR's Southern Region during the 1950s and 1960s.

Exhibited by Philip Standen, rolling stock is mainly formed of Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) and Diesel Electric Multiple Units (DEMUs), supplemented by occasional steam locomotive appearances.

The 12ft x 2ft layout features the Southern Region's distinctive third rail power collection system, together with a large carriage shed which dominates the scene. Most movements are to and from the carriage shed, while passenger services call at the adjacent station.

Ashington featured in HM5.
